Join Andy Stewart Mackay, author of The Story of Pop Art, for this fascinating talk at Inverness College UHI on Wednesday 5 February, 6.00pm until 7.00pm, as he explores pop art from a queer perspective:
Pop Art shocked the world with its irreverent and ironic attitude and its bold, diverse aesthetic. Since its ‘invention’ in London in the 1950s, through its ’60s heyday and into the present, it has influenced spheres of visual culture as diverse as street art and high fashion, publishing and filmmaking – and it stands as perhaps the most visually arresting and recognisable twentieth-century art movement. Moreover, Pop Art’s artistic radicalism developed and reflected the aesthetics of liberation to become the world’s first Queer Art movement.
